The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure that included Champions League success and the Premier League crown for three decades, now holds roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead another team within the country. Which implies should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, a player he signed while in charge, and its impact at the club. Jota died tragically in a car crash alongside his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
