Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
