Shock as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the forty-year-old media personality was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.

Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a location near the Carlton Centre.

"It is alleged the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities said.

Surveillance tape reportedly captured a individual with dreadlocks and wearing what appeared to be a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the location.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been attempting to locate them to determine their whereabouts," added an official.

"I am in shock. I am shattered," she said.
