He smiles as he turns the recording device on his own face and his associate fighters, their paramilitary identification on display: "They are all going to be killed this way."

These individuals are celebrating a mass killing that humanitarian officials suspect killed more than two thousand people in the African city of the Darfur city during October.

A Community Isolated from the World

After maintaining the urban area under blockade for nearly two years, from the summer the militia moved to reinforce its position and prevent access for the remaining inhabitants.

Satellite images demonstrate that forces started to erect a massive sand wall - a raised earthen wall - around the boundaries of the city, sealing off entry points and preventing relief supplies.

As the siege worsened, multiple civilians were killed in an militia attack on a religious building on mid-September, while the United Nations stated 53 additional were slain in aerial and heavy weapon strikes on a refugee settlement in the autumn.
