Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
