I Exchanged My Personal Trainer for AI – And It's Effective.
A runner
After a holiday period packed with rich foods and relaxation, numerous individuals head into January looking to regain their fitness momentum.
But, is it possible that Artificial Intelligence be transforming the world of exercise by offering an option to personal trainers?
Tailored Plans and Flexible Schedules
One fitness enthusiast used an artificial intelligence application for impromptu training for the a major running event.
This young woman hailing from a town in Wales said she appreciated the freedom to pose queries any time of day – something she felt was not possible with a traditional coach.
Leah relied on an AI-powered fitness application that provided her customized schedules with voice guidance and pace setting for her inaugural half marathon in recent years.
She explained she requested it to design a plan combining cardio and the gym, and it generated an 11-week plan tailored to her race date and objectives.
The user then adjusted the schedule to suit her daily routine, which she described was convenient.
The following year, she opted for a different tool because it was cheaper and she could consult it whenever she wanted. She finished a minute faster than her target finish.
She said she did not want feeling pressure from a live instructor.
"With AI you have to motivate yourself, which I actually prefer," she added.
Richard Gallimore
Remarkable Strength Improvements
In a similar case, Another individual, 23, from Swansea, has been employing AI for his exercise and nutrition programs, and said he has never felt stronger, increasing his chest press from 70kg to 110kg.
Richard resorted to a bot for help after being forced to walk a running event.
"I realized I need to sort myself out," he said.
The free tool built a fitness and meal program personalized to his goals, and established structured routines.
"I work out for about two hours a day and I've seen a noticeable change," he added.
The Cost Comparison: Technology vs. Traditional Coaching
One recent survey in late 2024 analyzed costs for numerous of the biggest gym brands and found the typical monthly fee was approximately forty pounds per month, for basic memberships.
Fees ranged from a lower price at the most affordable chain to £132 at the most expensive.
According to industry research, fitness coaches set their own rates, usually £30-£65 per 45-60 minute session in most areas and about a similar range in the capital.
Clients will often use a coach once or twice a week and work with them for a few months, but these arrangements are often adaptable.
Dafydd Judd
The Essential Human Element
Fitness coach Dafydd Judd, from Cardiff, acknowledged artificial intelligence can be beneficial to speed up progress, but is convinced it will not supplant the human connection and responsibility that live training provides.
The 37-year-old, who has 12 years experience as a coach, focuses on older adults and recovery from injuries. He mentioned a number of his clients also employ AI.
"I think it's extremely useful, more knowledge is positive," he said.
"I believe the more that people are connected digitally the more they'll desire human connection because they want the warmth from the comprehension that is missing from a machine," he added.
The trainer said Artificial intelligence can inform clients and make guidance more efficient.
However, he said true dedication comes when people show up physically for training.
"No matter how helpful as it is at 2am, a computer cannot ensure you show up at 7am before work," Dafydd added.
In the view of many, he said, the fitness center is a space to leave phones behind and stop being glued to screens.
