Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
